Transcription reduction using PC Touch, Dragon and medical leadership mandates
The group had heard about the system-wide push to decrease transcription utilization to improve real-time availability of physician documentation. Concerns expressed included:
1. At hospitals with site-wide Dragon, the software or microphones do not appear to be on all of the computers all of the time.
2. Desktop Dragon does not appear ready for "prime time."
3. At some sites, Dragon seems to crash frequently.
4. There does not seem to be enough support to push these types of initiatives including creating user-specific note templates (Dragon and PC Touch), end-user training and verifying that there are enough devices and software licenses available.
[]Anupam to follow-up with sites to make sure there is a deployment plan that includes these elements in preparation for phasing out telephone transcription for progress notes, consults and H&Ps.
Increased PowerPlan deployment to drive the value of CPOE
The group appreciated the strategy to create more PowerPlans to increase CPOE adoption. Some site floor nurses still struggle with initiating admission PowerPlans signed in the emergency room.
[]Susan Okuno-Jones to follow-up with the Nursing Education team about initiating PowerPlans.
Provider dictionary for Advocate for physician communication
The group agreed that this is a root cause of many problems the organization faces when trying to communicate with the physician community. Everyone recognizes that this is a big project and may not be appropriate to start with ICD-10 coming up in October.
[]Anupam will continue to determine the right scope and timing for this project with other organizational leaders.
Moving the CareConnection upgrades from a weekend to a weekday
The group did not express a preference to move from a weekend upgrade schedule to a weekday upgrade schedule. As long as there was adequate support to help users through the upgrade, the group was comfortable leaving the upgrade schedule on Saturday nights.
Routing radiology results to physicians using DIRECT or other technology besides a fax server
The group felt this should be addressed after the Advocate-wide provider directory is created. Laura pointed out examples where a provider's contact information is updated in one database, but not updated in all databases, leading to unsafe behaviors and, in some cases, legal action.
[] Anupam to follow-up with Laura to get more details about inconsistent provider updates that might help drive the conversation for a more robust provider directory.
Process to consider prioritization of enhancements to CareConnection and other clinical systems for physicians and nurses
Kristen outlined a process to use this group to help prioritize requests for physician and nursing requests. She will bring more details to the next meeting.
The next meeting is scheduled for July 7 at 1700 hours.
